What this was, and where it went
Word Search was a hosted Chrome App: a launcher that opened wordsearch1.com in a tab. It was not an extension and it was not code running inside your browser — it could reach no more of your browsing than a bookmark to the same address.
Chrome Apps were a separate platform, and Google withdrew it. Support ended on Windows, macOS and Linux in 2022 and on ChromeOS in early 2025, so the launcher no longer starts. That is a different story from the Manifest V2 wind-down, which is about extensions and happened later.
The address it opened was wordsearch1.com. It no longer serves a page: we requested it on and the server answered 502. So both halves of this one are gone, the launcher and the site it launched.
Its listing was still in the store when we checked on 31 August 2026. Being listed and being usable are different things, and the store does not distinguish them.
What to use instead
No close enough replacement turned up in the same category. Filling the space with something that merely looks similar would be worse than saying so.
