Synology Note Station

Synology Note Station was a Chrome App, not an extension, and Chrome no longer runs it. It shipped its own files and ran in a window of its own, so nothing is left behind it.

Its last update was 8.7 years ago. Chrome withdrew the Chrome Apps platform from desktop in 2022 and from ChromeOS in early 2025.

Why we score it 70

  • A Chrome App rather than an extension, on a platform Chrome has withdrawn.
  • Has not been updated in over 8 years.
  • Asks for a wide set of powerful permissions.

What it can access

On the sites it runs on, Synology Note Station can reach every site you visit. Its permission set rates 75 out of 100 for reach — a measure of what it could do, not of anything it has done.

Store rating 3.8 out of 5 from 200 people.

What this was, and why it stopped

Synology Note Station was a packaged Chrome App: it shipped its own files and ran in a window of its own, rather than as part of a web page. Chrome Apps were a separate platform from extensions, and Google withdrew it — support ended on Windows, macOS and Linux in 2022 and on ChromeOS in early 2025.

What it ran: a declaration that it worked offline.

Unlike a hosted app there is no website underneath this one to fall back on. The app was the whole program, so when the platform went, nothing was left behind it.

It declared it needed Chrome 42 or newer. Its listing was still in the store when we checked on 31 August 2026. Being listed and being usable are different things, and the store does not distinguish them.
